Rostam Turner

Rostam Turner became the Varsity Blues full-time assistant coach of sprints and hurdles in September 2022.

Turner joins the Blues after three seasons as an assistant track and field coach at the Unviersity of La Verne (2019-22). There, while serving under United States Olympic track and field coach Kevin Reid, he helped coach eight athletes to SCIAC all conference honours, including three conference champions and two NCAA Division III national qualifiers.

As a member of the Varsity Blues, Turner was a two-time U SPORTS all-Canadian. He placed second in the national men’s heptathlon in 2016 and went onto reach the top of the podium in that event at the 2017 championships. That season, he was named U of T’s T-Holders’ male athlete of the year.

On the national stage, Turner is a two-time Canadian national decathlon champion (2016, 2022). He won the 2016 NACAC under-23 decathlon title, while also placing second in the decathlon at the 2016 Pan American Combined Events Cup. In 2017, Turner represented Canada at the Francophone Games, earning a bronze medal and most recently earned the bronze medal at the 2022 NACAC championships.
