Garth Gottfried returned to the Varsity Blues as head coach in 2008. Coaching since 2000, Garth has been involved with junior boys' and senior men's club rugby in Toronto, as well as high school and college teams. In 2007, Garth came back to the University of Toronto as an assistant coach.

He began playing rugby as a student in the University of Toronto intramural league in the early '90s. Moving up to the Varsity Blues the following season, Garth continued to play rugby long after graduation. He played in Quebec, England and Australia immediately after graduation while travelling the world.

Upon his return to Toronto, Garth began working for The Score television as a producer for Sportsworld, a daily international sports news and highlights show. Through The Score, Garth was able to provide Canadians with one of their only sources for rugby in the media.

Garth also works for Rugby Canada as a media consultant, and is currently part of Sun Media's online sports department. As a specialized sports journalist, Garth has been able to meet and learn from some of Canada's and the world’s top rugby people.
