2024 Men's Water Polo Roster
Biography
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team is proud to announce the addition of Sean Gripp to their 2023 roster.
Gripp has been a mainstay of the Lyons Township High School varsity team for the past three years. He led his squad to one second place and two third place finishes in the Illinois High School State Championships as the team recorded a 69-20 mark. This year he captained the team and led the team in assists.
Since 2018, when he was 14 years old, Gripp has played with the Lyons Aquatics Water Polo Club. He attended five USA Water Polo Junior Olympics competitions. In 2019, he was a starter on the Midwest Zone Olympic Development Program team and was the winner of the Nick Johnson Inspiration Award.
“The Blues men’s team has been without a left-handed player for the past several seasons,” stated Gross, Jr. “So, the key priority for the incoming 2023 high school grads was the recruitment of left-handed players. Sean is one of the lefties that will be counted on to give the potent Blues attack more balance.”
Outside the pool, Gripp was on the honour roll for his entire high school career. He has also served as the head water polo coach for athletes 14 and under and an assistant swim coach for athletes 18 and under at his community pool.
“I chose the University of Toronto because it combined an impressive higher education with water polo,” stated Gripp enthusiastically. “U of T was my choice because of its great reputation, large size, prideful community and welcoming teammates. I look forward to continuing my academic and athletic career in one of the best cities in the world.”
Gripp will study Environmental & Urban Studies and is affiliated with St. Michael’s College.
