2024 Men's Water Polo Roster
Biography
The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's water polo team is proud to announce the addition of Rhys Carr to their 2023-24 roster.
Carr has been playing water for 10 years with the Hamilton Aquatic Water Polo Club (HAWPC). As a member of the club’s U13 team, he won two silver medals at the Ontario provincial championships. As a U17 player, he joined the newly-created Southwest Sharks club and led the team to back-to-back bronze medals at the Eastern Nationals. Moving up to U19 play, he won silver at the National Provincial Teams Championships this past summer. His biggest achievement yet came in the summer of 2022 when he was named to Canada’s junior national team that played at the Junior Pan Am Games in Indianapolis.
“Rhys is a hard-working player who has gained a lot of experience through his play at different levels and with different programs,” stated Blues Director of Recruiting, George Gross, Jr. “He can play all over the pool, which will be a great asset to our squad moving forward.”
As a student at Westdale Secondary School, Carr was a multi-sport varsity athlete. He was a member of the school’s water polo (city champions 2021-22 and 2022-23), basketball and volleyball teams. He was the Grade 11 Athlete of the Year. He also played rep basketball for fours years with Ancaster.
“I chose U of T because it allows me to play water polo at a high level while getting an excellent education,” said Carr. “I also chose U of T because of its amazing setup for student-athletes including great facilities close to where I’ll be studying. I’m really excited to be living in a big city that offers a wide range of experiences and I’m looking forward to meeting people from all over the world.”
Carr will be studying in the Mathematics and Physical Sciences program at U of T.
