Joe Rumolo enters his forth season on the Varsity Blues staff, bringing an extensive coaching and playing resume to the team. Serving as the defensive line coach in 2005, Rumolo took over as defensive coordinator in 2006. Rumolo was the defensive line coach for the East team at the 2006 East-West All-Star Game at Laval. He previously held defensive coordinator duties at Birchmount Collegiate from 1999 to 2003, helping the school to Scarborough championships and appearances in the Metro Bowl in 2000, 2001 and 2003, and also coordinated the Oshawa Hawkeyes defence in 2004.

Rumolo was taken 12th overall in the 1997 CFL draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after enjoying a successful collegiate career at the University of Akron. The first team Mid-American conference all-star played eight seasons in the CFL, as well as suiting up for two years with the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League.
