Ivan Birungi joined the Blues coaching staff in 2012. He was a back-to-back CIS Atlantic Conference (AUS) most valuable player with the Acadia Axemen in 2005 and 2006 and holds the conference and club record for regular-season career touchdown receptions with 29.

Birungi finished his CIS career at the University of Ottawa before being drafted by the Montreal Alouettes in 2006. He also signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2009.
