Golf History

The first attempt at intercollegiate golf in Canada was made in 1923 when a match was arranged between McGill and Toronto at Toronto Golf Club, which saw McGill win. Immediately following that match on Nov. 9, a meeting was held at U of T's Hart House and the Canadian Intercollegiate Golf Union was formed.  Dr. R. F. Ruttan, a graduate of both Toronto and McGill, was elected the first honorary president and J.A. Sullivan of U of T the first president.

Women's golf joined the Varsity Blues family in 2002 with Tanya Nestor being the lone female on the roster. The next season, Nestor was joined by Sara Clark and Miko Kusano, who all competed at the OUA championship. In 2004, the team earned their first-ever medals at invitational tournaments and capped it off with a third-place finish at the OUA event.  The first 'official' OUA women's golf championship occurred in 2005 at Sunningdale Golf & Country Club in London.

The Canadian University/College Championship, sponsored by the RCGA, started in 2003. Danielle Greene earned Toronto's top result in team history, placing second overall at the 2006 event.
