Meerveld's Muses #9
At the end of a season it is always healthy to take some time to step back and reflect on what was. It was just a couple months ago that I sat at this same computer and had about as much knowledge of how the season was going to play out as you did.
People have asked me whether I thought this season was a step backwards for a program that made such strides a year ago. The answer is no. The answer is no not because it’s my job to remain positive regardless of circumstance. The answer is no because whether we like it or not growing pains are a fundamental part of growing. This year the team featured the strongest crop of rookies I have seen during my time here. These are young men that on certain days seemed to have limitless potential and yet the thing about experience and veteran status is that it doesn’t arrive without taking a lick or 2 along the way. The neat thing for our young guys is that no matter how frustrating certain days were, as seniors they will look back and realize that every challenge that they overcame was an integral part of thier development.
I said at the beginning of the season that this year was like a beginning of a new book. Chapter 1 is complete and served its purpose in our story, now its time to lift a couple weights run a couple sprints and begin writing chapter 2.
Thank you for taking the time to come along with me inside the Varsity Blues Football experience-there isn’t a group of fans in the world I would have rather shared it with.
