Woodside Word is back!
Hello, and yes, the Woodside Word shall continue for another season. I have been a pretty big slacker for the first quarter of the year. I had a little siesta during training camp and the first four games of the season. It has been a freakin’ long time since I made any sort of update on the Ol’ Word. Since then, I hung a big larry off of Rookie Road onto Sophomore Street. I had to beg Mary Beth to let me do the blog again this season. She was totally against it, said I didn’t carry my weight last year.
So there are lots of new faces in Blues’ uniforms this year and, unfortunately, lots of old ones that aren’t. I must say we’re going to miss having all eight of you fellas around. It was my pleasure to have played alongside you boys. Ed has a new crony around this year too: Mike Chumbley, who did his playing days out on the beautiful east coast, rounds out an already impeccable coaching staff.
Well sir, well sir, well sir. We had a little bit of a rough start; wouldn’t you say? I dare say that four consecutive losses to start things off was not envisioned or expected by any single member of our organization. It is pretty stinking frustrating to have a start like that. Two close losses in five at Windsor and at home against Waterloo are ones we want back for sure. I’ll not talk about our matches with Western or Guelph.
But on Sunday, we officially made it to the win column! It sure does feel good. The volleyball Blues are elated at the expense of Laurier. A four set match with a very exciting third set, which we unfortunately could not win. A few things sort of culminated for us tonight, and translated into a result which is nice. We have been on the upswing as far as playing as a unit is concerned and that went even better again this evening.
I haven’t seen all of the stats yet for tonight, but I think it would be fair to say that we passed well? If you didn’t know, that has been sort of a nemesis for us so far this season. I’m not allowed to complain though, ‘cause I don’t pass. If I complain they’ll just say “Here! You try it!” I’ll take a rain check, thanks. Oh yeah, and that rightside (who shall remain nameless) quit wandering around twiddling his thumbs out on the court. So for our efforts, and attentiveness, we were awarded the victory. Hooray Blues!
The Blues swag is nice this year: brand new sport duffle-backpack combo, more dry-fits than you can shake a stick at, and best of all, sweatpants. I think three-quarters of our team lives in those pants (If you’re looking for reasons why we stink, women’s basketball, you may want to look into that one). One beef though, no pockets.
Next matchup is Friday vs. Ryerson at the sports gym.
Blues on two... Blues!
