Nicks Notes
Hello everyone!
My name is Nick Snow, and I’m a 4th year student in the Faculty of Physical Education and Health here at the University of Toronto. I’m a forward on the men’s basketball team, and have been asked to write periodically throughout the year for varsityblues.ca, giving a little description of what’s going on with the team as we progress throughout the season.
Our team has a great mix of older players and young, energetic guys. Our “old” guys consist of guards Rob Paris, Nick Magalas, and forwards Ahmed Nazmi, Pat Sewell and Andrew Wasik. We also have a great group of young guys in; Anthony Degiorgio, Justin Holmes, Seb Magalas and Drazen Glisic.
New to the team this year; Ben Garvin, Arun Kumar, Pat Moskal, Jahmal McQueen, Junior Toby. (Pat Sewell is new to the team this year too, but joins us with three years experience playing at Fanshawe College in London, and is one the oldest guys on our team, warranting him a spot with the “old” guys.)
We also have a fantastic coaching staff that is definitely preparing us to play our best basketball this year. We’ve been so close to making it to nationals the past three years and they are more than ready and doing their best to prepare us to get over the hump and contend for a national championship.
We began playing over Labour Day weekend in exhibition games, continuing on with a number of pre-season games throughout October. We travelled to Nova Scotia, Montreal, and played some games here in Toronto as well.
Our regular season just started, with our first game this past weekend against the Ryerson University Rams. We played the dangerous young Rams at their gym and came away with a 92-78 victory.
We play this weekend at home at the Athletic Centre, hosting the McMaster Marauders on Friday and on Saturday, the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Both teams will be competitive in the OUA West so the games should be really exciting and a great measure of how we can play the rest of the year.
You’ll hear from me a fair bit this year; I hope this blog brings you a little bit of entertainment. I’ll try to keep you as up to date as possible with everything that’s going on with the team.
Until next time, Go Blues!
