The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team swept the Moncton Preseason Tournament with a 3-2 comeback win over the McGill Martlets.
U of T wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as fourth-year forward Taylor Delahey opened the scoring, finishing off a feed from her twin sister Ashley Delahey. McGill answered with back-to-back power play markers as Anika Cormier and Chloe Blanchard flipped the script as the Blues found themselves trailing 2-1 going into the first intermission.
After a scoreless second period, Toronto found another gear in the third period. Midway through the third period, fifth-year captain Kaitlyn McKnight pulled the Blues even with an unassisted goal to set the stage for a late finish. With less than five minutes remaining, U of T took the lead when third-year defender Jaia Freer set up fourth-year forward Abby Whitworth for the game-winning goal.
From there, the Blues locked things down defensively to secure the win. Meanwhile, third-year goalie Lyla McKinnon made 24 saves between the pipes to earn the victory.
