The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team began their preseason tournament by defeating the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-2 on Friday (Sept. 25) afternoon in Moncton, N.B.

Following their six-goal showcase versus Midland, U of T's offence picked up right where it left off in the second game of the preseason. Leading the way offensively for the Blue and White was fourth-year forward Christina Alexiou. The kinesiology student from Oakville scored two goals in their first of three games in three days. Also contributing offensively, chipping in one goal each for the Blues was fifth-year forward Emma Elders and second-year forward Petra Klimes. On the playmaking side, third-year defender Jaia Freer notched two assists. Meanwhile, second-year Dieppe, N.B., native Karelle Daigle also nabbed an assist.

In goal, second-year Vancouver native Jillian Matthews got off to a strong start to her preseason, making 15 saves to earn the win between the pipes.

The Blues are right back in action as the Moncton Preseason Tournament continues Saturday (Sept. 26) afternoon when they take on the Saint Mary's Huskies in Moncton. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
