CHOWN SIGNS PRO CONTRACT WITH OTTAWA RAPID FC OF NSL

University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer superstar Hannah Chown has signed a professional contract with Ottawa Rapid FC, as announced by the Northern Super League (NSL) club on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The top division of women's soccer in Canada, Chown becomes one of only a few U SPORTS alumna to sign a professional contract with an NSL club since the debut of the new league in April 2025. The Rapid currently sit atop the NSL standings with 33 total points from a 10-3-3 (W-L-D) record. Three matches remain in the NSL regular season.

A true difference-maker with the Varsity Blues across her five seasons wearing the Blue & White, Chown most recently helped the program win their first OUA provincial banner in team history. A dominant centreback, she consistently thwarted the top strikers from across the province. In addition, she made an offensive impact from set-pieces tallying 20 career goals across 68 total regular season and postseason matches. This included scoring the game-winning goal in the OUA gold medal match this past fall. She is a five-time OUA all-star, receiving the honour in every season she competed with the Varsity Blues. She also finished her career being named OUA MVP and a U SPORTS all-Canadian during the 2025 campaign. Additionally, she received the OUA Community Service Award, honouring her outstanding work as a leader off the pitch as well.

Chown's dominance has continued beyond her last season with the Varsity Blues adding two more achievements with her club team this summer. Competing with Simcoe County Rovers FC, she helped the squad win the top-tier women's Ontario Premier League (OPL1) title, finishing an undefeated season to clinch back-to-back league championships in late July. The Rovers then made history in mid-August, becoming the first OPL team (men or women) to defeat a professional team following a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Roses of the NSL during the quarter-final round of the inaugural W Canadian Championship.

While competing at U of T, Chown completed both an undergraduate degree in Humanities and a Master of Teaching.
