Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

TORONTO COMES UP JUST SHORT IN ROAD CONTEST AT TMU

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 3-2 versus the TMU Bold on Friday (Nov. 6) afternoon at Mattamy Athletic Centre.

TMU opened the scoring midway through the first period with a power play goal as Carter MacAdams banged in a deflection in front of the U of T net to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Toronto responded early in the second, as third-year forward Ryan Gillespie benefited from a forced turnover by the Bold and found the back of the net to score his third goal of the season. Late in the frame, Jordan Fairlie would maintain the stalemate making an incredible sliding save on a TMU breakaway. Fairlie would finish the night with 31 total saves including double-digit saves across each of the three periods.

Shifting to the third period, the home side Bold were able to regain the lead with a power play goal from Joseph Ianniello before adding a third just minutes later, scored by Ryan Cooper. Despite the two-goal deficit, the Blues continued to push offensively, generating 12 shots in the final frame. With under a minute remaining and the goalie pulled, third-year forward Sean Clarke snapped a shot through traffic to bring Toronto back within one. With less than a minute remaining though, the Blues would come up just short in the come-from-behind effort.

Suffering a bout of poor luck, Toronto find themselves on a three-game slide dropping each by just a one-goal margin. The Blues will look to rebound on home ice as they next welcome the Waterloo Warriors to Varsity Arena on Saturday (Nov. 4) afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. All OUA hockey games are also streamed live and on demand via oua.tv.
