ROBINSON AND KATIC INVITED TO NHL ROOKIE SHOWCASES

A pair of University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey alumni in Owen Robinson and Danny Katic have received invites to NHL rookie showcases, scheduled to take place across North America over the next week.

Invited by the Chicago Blackhawks, Robinson will travel to St. Paul, Minnesota where a trio of NHL clubs (Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis) will compete in the 2025 Tom Kurvers Showcase. A playmaking forward studying criminology and sociology at U of T, Robinson showcased remarkable talent throughout his four seasons wearing the Blue and White. He appeared in 95 regular season games, accumulating 92 career regular season points from 38 goals and 54 assists. He earned OUA West MVP, OUA first team all-star and U SPORTS first team all-Canadian honours during the 2024-25 Blues campaign after leading the OUA in scoring with 38 points from 15 goals and 23 assists. He also added 14 OUA postseason games to his career tally with the Varsity Blues, notching 14 playoff points from seven goals and seven assists. Following the conclusion of the U of T men's hockey season last spring he signed a professional contract with the Indy Fuel of the ECHL, registering 10 points (3 G, 7 A) across 10 regular season and four playoff games for the Chicago Blackhawks affiliated team.

Receiving an invite from the Ottawa Senators, Katic will compete in Montreal against fellow rookies from the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets in the 2025 Prospect Showdown. After losing out on his final seasons with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Katic made his way to the Varsity Blues competing with the men's hockey team during the 2021-22 season. An impact player everywhere he has been, he registered 16 points (4 G, 12 A) through 17 regular season games while with U of T. He then delivered two impressive seasons with the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL, tallying 90 points (42 G, 48 A) across 127 regular season games. He then spent time with the Bloomington Bisons of the ECHL and Chicago Wolves of the AHL, before landing with the Ottawa Senators AHL affiliate Belleville Senators ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

NHL rookie tournaments are scheduled to take place in 10 different cities between September 11-15. Many of the games and events schedule will stream on team websites or other team-owned platforms.
