The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's soccer team finished the 2025 season with a 2-0 win over the Cape Breton Capers at the 2025 U SPORTS women's soccer championship on Saturday (Nov. 8) night in Hamilton.
In the third minute 1
st team all-canadian Hannah Chown dribbled the ball around a Cape Breton defender and set up fifth-year forward Anne Yeomans who fired a shot to the low corner of the net past a diving Ellie Lancaster. Chown helped set up the Blues second goal in the sixth minute. On a long throw in from the Mississauga native, the ball ended up on the foot of second-year midfielder Maddy Mah, who fired it into the back of the net to double U of T's lead.
As the game progressed, a veteran Blues squad was able to do what they've done best all season and shut down the opposition. Cape Breton's best chance came in the second half when a shot from distance was turned aside by third-year goalkeeper Maria Godoy-Atrash to keep the Blues ahead by two-goals. Godoy-Atrash made five saves in U of T's second clean sheet of the U SPORTS championship as the Blue and White ended the season with a complete 90-minute effort to earn the win in their season finale.
Chown capped off her illustrious Varsity Blues career with player of the match honours.
The Blues finish the 2025 season with their first OUA championship in program history and a fifth place finish at the U SPORTS championship. With eight graduating players, U of T will head into the offseason looking to build on a successful season.
