Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

BLUES CAP OFF 2025 WITH THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team earned a road win, defeating the York Lions 4-1 on Saturday (Nov. 29) night in Toronto.

The Blues wasted no time setting the tone, scoring less than five minutes into the game. Capitalizing on early pressure, third-year forward Christina Alexiou slid into the slot and received a pass from fellow third-year forward Abby Whitworth, sending a backhander top shelf for her seventh goal of the season. U of T used that momentum to garner a complete opening 20 minutes, controlling offensive pressure and forcing the Lions to the outside when defending.

The second period saw the Blues double their lead as third-year forward Ashley Delahey finished off a crisp pass from her twin sister Taylor Delahey. Toronto continued to get high-danger scoring chances as the period progressed with their persistence paying off late in the period as captain Kaitlyn McKnight netted her fifth goal of the season, sending home a rebound off of first-year forward Emma Lambert's shot. With the assist, Lambert earned her first point in the OUA.

York responded in the third period as Kaitlin Teixeira found the back of the net to give the Lions some life. Despite the goal against, the Blues stuck to their game and responded midway through the period as Alexiou and Whitworth connected once again for Whitworth's 11th goal of the season. The Blues continued to tighten up defence and limited York's chances as they looked to mount a comeback. As the final horn went off the Blues capped off 2025 by ending their win streak to three games.

Second-year goaltender Lyla McKinnon was strong in net with 16 saves.

The Blues will return to the ice in the new year when they host the No. 3 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels at Varsity Arena on Friday (Jan. 9) night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., with tickets available at varsityblues.ca/tickets. U of T students receive free entry with a valid T-Card. The game will also be streamed live on oua.tv.
