ELDERS NOTCHES TWO GOALS IN WIN OVER TMU

The No. 5 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the TMU Bold 3-2 on Saturday (Nov. 1) night at Varsity Arena.

In a strong performance to begin November, the Blues did a great job of pushing for offensive chances and keeping TMU to a minimum in the defensive end. The Blues grabbed 13 shots on net in the opening frame and third-year goaltender Carlee Vance was strong, turning aside all Bold shots she faced in the period. With 13 seconds left in the period, fourth-year forward Emma Elders broke free on the rush and picked up the puck. After beating TMU's defence, she shot the puck over goaltender Sydney Pyburn's shoulder and into the top corner.

The Bold opened the second with a tying goal when Eden Dusome received a stretch pass and went down on a breakaway. TMU pulled ahead as Gaby Gareau found the back of the net through a screen. Undeterred, the Blues grabbed the equalizer when, right off the faceoff, fifth-year Kalie Chan sniped a wrist shot from the point through traffic for her second goal of the season, capping the middle frame with a 2-2 score.

Elders notched her second goal of the game in the third period, sneaking a shot through Pyburn's five-hole to retake the lead. Throughout the rest of the period, the Blues locked down defensively, with Vance keeping the Bold off the board in the period in a 20 save effort in securing the win for the Blue and White.

The Blues are back in action on Friday (Nov. 7) night when they face the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay, Ont. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
