TORONTO MAKES QUICK WORK OF YORK

Continuing their preseason schedule, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over the York Lions on the road Friday (Oct. 3) night at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

Set scores in the match were 25-22, 25-17, 25-22.

12 different players saw the court for the Blues in the quick three set match. Delivering a dynamite performance in the exhibition outing, second-year standout Julia Liu notched a game-high 17 points with an impressive 16 kills and two block assists acros her three sets played. Four more Blues registered six or more points including Giulia Chimilovski (8), Thea Ziesmann (7.5), Marie Boulerice (7), and Olivia Zhu (6). First-year setter Marina Gustke guided the offence with 23 assists, while returning Canadian national team libero Delaney Watson tallied a game-high 13 digs defensively.

For the Lions, Quincy Johnson reached double-digits in defeat finishing with nine kills and two block assists for 10 points. Victoria Herrington added another eight kills, one service ace, and a block assist for 9.5 points.

Toronto next welcome a very tough opponent in the McMaster Marauders to the Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House on Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon. First serve for the preseason contest is set for 1 p.m. Tickets for all Varsity Blues volleyball home games are available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
