*Varsity Blues men's soccer semifinal preview, presented by Lebanese Garden*
The No. 3 nationally ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's soccer team will host the No. 2 ranked York Lions for the 2025 OUA Men's Soccer Championship final this Saturday, November 1 at Varsity Stadium.
U of T have been on a hot-streak, winning their last seven consecutive games to earn their spot in the provincial gold medal match. During this stretch, the Blues have delivered on both ends of the pitch securing clean sheets in five of the seven wins, while outscoring their opponents 30-4.
Toronto's journey included a first round playoff bye after finishing first overall in the OUA East division with a 10-1-1 (W-L-T) record. They then knocked off the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, 4-2, in quarter-final action last weekend, and Waterloo Warriors, 2-0, in a semifinal showdown this past Saturday.
As for the No. 2 ranked team in the country, York also claimed a first round playoff bye after finishing first in the OUA West division with a 9-1-2 record. This has included a string of six straight wins to close out their regular season schedule. In two hard fought playoff victories, the Lions earned a 3-2 quarter-final win over McMaster and a 2-1 semifinal win over Carleton, requiring a 5-3 victory in penalty kicks to dispatch of the Ravens.
The Blues will be aiming to capture their 51
st OUA men's soccer banner with their very first provincial championship coming in 1904 and most recent coming in 2010. Meanwhile, the Lions last claimed the OUA title in 2018 and have won seven in total dating back to their first in 1977.
In addition to the provincial battle between the two squads, both the Blues and Lions have earned a spot at the 2025 U SPORTS men's soccer championship. The University of Toronto is the proud host of the 2025 U SPORTS men's soccer championship, November 6-9, at Varsity Stadium.
