The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell 75-63 in their final exhibition game to the Regina Cougars on Friday (Oct. 17) night at Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House.
After falling behind to the Cougars after the first quarter, the Blues were strong to end the half, outscoring Regina 17-12 in the second quarter as U of T shot 50 per cent from the field in the first half. A strong showing to begin the second half saw the Cougars pull ahead by 14 points but U of T played hard until the final buzzer, cutting the lead to 12 and finished the game shooting 37 per cent on field goals and held a 48-47 advantage on rebounds.
Leading the way on the scoreboard for Toronto was fourth-year forward Janet Enge with 16 points. The Yellowknife native excelled at forcing turnovers, tying for a time-high three steals. Second-year guard Dianna Comsa scored 14 points in the game and led the Blues from behind the three-point line, making 33 per cent of her shots. Third-year centre Jade-Emmanuelle Diwandja Djemba's eight rebounds was a game-high and Comsa and third-year guard Faith Joseph acclimated three steals. Second-year guard Lia Barbiari distributed the ball well with five assists.Â
For Regina, Eden Wells was the games top scorer with 26 points. Meanwhile, guard Cara Misskey had a game-high four steals.
The Blues are back in action on Friday (Oct. 24) night when they open the regular season against the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on
