The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's basketball team finished their weekend with a 114-41 win over the visiting Algoma Thunderbirds at Goldring Centre Kimel Family Field House on Sunday (Nov 3) afternoon.
The Blues came out blazing in the first, and never stopped, leading from start to finish in the big home win. The Thunderbirds were held to a combined 14 points in the second half, just seven in each quarter, while Toronto's offence delivered an effective 60 points in the third and fourth. Every Blue who checked into the game scored, with five players contributing double digits. Toronto's strong defence also held the Thunderbirds to just 23 percent from the field.
Third-year forward Nigel Hylton shone bright for the Blues, shooting over 90 percent from the field on 11 field goal attemps. Hylton finished with a game-high 23 points, adding five boards, three assists, one steal, and one block in just 13 minutes of action. Continuing to highlight the depth of the Blues lineup, Ryan Rudnick and Rohan Scott-Smith registered 18 and 15 points off the bench, respectively. Rudnick was also a force defensively, picking up four steals, two blocks, and five rebounds to round out his stat line.
Johan Germain and Kal-El Alejo scored 10 and nine points respectively for the Thunderbirds..
