The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team won 5-2 versus the Windsor Lancers on Sunday (Oct. 20) in Windsor.
Despite a strong start for the Blues, it was Windsor who struck first as Tylin Hilbig set up Kirk Mullen in front of the net for the early lead. However, Toronto quickly responded when Mark Cooper delivered a perfect pass to Owen Robinson just outside the Lancers blue line, giving him a breakaway opportunity which Robinson capitalized on to even the game at 1-1.

The second period brought plenty of chances for the Varsity Blues, and midway through the second, Zack Smith showcase quick instincts in front of the net pouncing on a rebound to take the lead. Nearing the end of the second, Robinson and Smith displayed their impressive chemistry during a two-on-one, with Smith setting up Robinson for his second goal of the game.

In just the first thirty seconds of the third period, the Lancers closed the gap when Logan Linklater buried a rebound after a shot from Matt McNamara. But the remainder of the game proved to be a defensive battle, with both goaltenders, U of T's Jordan Fairlie and Windsor's Nathan Torchia, making key saves to keep their teams in the game. Fairlie closed out the game with 32 total saves, while Torchia notched 33 for the Lancers. The Blues offence just wouldn't be stopped though as with close to four minutes left, Billy Moskal tipped in a beautiful shot from Cooper, raising the score to 4-2. Then, in the last seven seconds, the Blues slipped in an empty net goal from Nicholas Wong to close out the game.
