The Varsity Blues men's hockey team won 4-3 against the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night (Sept. 15) at Varsity Arena.
The Blues started strong with second-year forward Nicholas Wong scoring two goals back-to-back in under eight minutes of the first period. Third-year forward Ben Woodhouse set-up teammate Emmett Serensits for the Blues third goal.
Early in the second period, rookie Julian Recine buried a shot behind the opposing goalie to round out the four goal night for the Blues. However, the Gee-Gees were quick to respond in the second frame with their first goal of the match.
Although the Gee-Gees scored two more goals in the third the Blues held their ground to take the 4-3 win over Ottawa.
Third-year goaltender Jett Alexander had a strong game, saving 26 of the 29 shots he faced.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night (Sept. 16) against the Carleton University at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. with tickets for the exhibition contest available at varsityblues.ca/tickets.
