Box Score After forcing a third game in overtime, the Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 6-3 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Game 3 of the OUA quarter-finals on Saturday (Feb. 25) night at Fort Williams Gardens.
WHAT HAPPENED:Â It was a fast-paced first period with both teams having high quality chances, but the Blues would come out with a one-goal lead after a Nick Grima shot from the point early in the period.
The fast pace continued into the second period with both goalies make key saves for both teams keeping them in the game. With just under four minutes to play, Josh Van Unen tied up the game for the Thunderwolves.
The Thunderwolves opened the scoring early in the third period with a goal from Olivier Pouliot. He would gone to score two more goals in the third to complete his hat trick. Keighan Gerrie added a goal of his own in the first minute of the period, as well. Blues defencemen Ryan Barbosa and forward Cole Purboo recorded goals for U of T, but they wouldn't be enough to complete the comeback. Griffen Fox wrapped up the scoring for Lakehead scoring in the empty net.
Blues starting goalie Jett Alexander made 36 saves through the 60 minutes.
