WOMEN'S HOCKEY SHUTOUT WARRIORS

The No. 9 ranked Varsity Blues women's hockey team shutout the Waterloo Warriors 3-0 on Friday (Nov. 24) night at Varsity Arena.

The Blues offence was on fire from the get go as they dominated puck possession in the first period. The Blues fired 17 shots at the Warriors net in the first with Captain Taylor Trussler picking up her fifth goal of the season to give Toronto a one goal lead after the opening frame.

In the second period, both teams pushed for offence as fifth-year goaltender Erica Fryer and Waterloo goalie, Mikayla Schnarr, traded saves in their respective creases. Late in the period, Toronto was able to add to their lead in the final four minutes of the period. Fifth-year defender Caroline Eagles pounced on her own rebound in front of the net to double the lead.

The Blues kept their foot on the gas as the period winded down. Third-year forward Katy McKenna picked up her second goal of the season with under three minutes to go, sending Toronto into the third with a three-goal lead.

In the third period, despite the Blues being outshot by a hungry Warriors offence, Toronto's defence and Fryer stood tall. The Amhestburg, Ont. native turned away all nine shots she faced in the closing frame, for her third shutout of the season.

The Blues will now turn their sights to the No. 4 ranked Nipissing Lakers for a road matchup next Saturday (Dec. 2) night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on oua.tv.
