Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to the Lakeahd Thunderwolves on Saturday night (Jan. 7) in Thunder Bay, Ont.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 9-7-2-0 but remain in fifth place in the OUA West division.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Lakehead opened the scoring late in the first period when Josh Van Unen found the back of the net on the powerplay. The home team held the one-goal advantage after 20 minutes.

The Blues evened the score midway through the second frame when Owen Guy finished off a nice passing play with Zack Smith and Ben Woodhouse. That lead didn't last long though as Lakehead's Tyler Ho put the Thunderwolves ahead less than three minutes later. The Thunderwolves were up 2-1 heading into the final frame.

Ben Badalamenti extended the Thunderwolves lead with a powerplay goal 1:32 into the third period. The Blues didn't quit though and cut the deficit back down to one when Cole Purboo finished off a nice pass from Owen Robinson off the back post with six minutes remaining.

The Thunderwolves added an empty-net goal in the dying seconds to round out the scoring.

First-year Blues netminder Rayce Ramsay made 26 saves in the loss.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action next Saturday, January 14 as they host the Guelph Gryphons at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
