BLUES FALL TO NO. 1 GEE-GEES

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's basketball team fell to the No. 1 Ottawa Gee-Gees 89-35 on Saturday (Jan. 21) night at Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport.
 
The Blues now hold a 4-12 record on the season, remaining in fifth place in the OUA Central division.

TORONTO STATS: Third-year guard Lauren Boers led the Blues team with 10 points.

Veteran Ellen Ougrinov added six points, three rebounds and one steal.

Defensively, Faith Joesph and Sabrina Nero had noteworthy nights. Joesph had an outstanding performance totaling a career-high five steals and added two assists, while Nero had three steals and three rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED: A complete performance from the Gee-Gees saw the Blues struggle through the first and second quarters. With the Gee-Gees offence and defence in full swing, the Ottawa-based team came out of the first quarter ahead 28-7 and lead 51-17 heading into the half.
 
The Blues battled hard in the quarter scoring 13 to the Gee-Gees 18 (69-30), but would ultimately fall 89-35.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to the court on Friday, January 27 to face off against the Western Mustangs at Goldring Centre for High-Performance Sport. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
