BLUES FALL TO LIONS IN OT

Box Score Despite a third period comeback, the Toronto Varsity Blues were forced to settle for just a single point on Friday, February 18 at Canlan Ice Sports, as the Blues dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to the York Lions.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues, who had scored 17 goals in their previous two games, wasted no time getting on the board against the Lions. Only 24 seconds into the game, Ben Woodhouse beat York goalie Cole Ceci to put Toronto up 1-0.

Continuing to hold their 1-0 advantage into the second period, the Blues began to feel a strong push from the home team. York came out firing in the middle frame and were ultimately able to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play, thanks to goals from Braydon Buziak and Nik Malenica.

Trailing by a goal heading into the final frame of regulation, the Blues regrouped and were able to get momentum back on their side. Just under five minutes into the frame, the Blues found the equalizer with a goal from Nick Grima. Toronto would then go on to regain the lead with 6:05 to play on a Cole Purboo one-timer. However, with their goalie pulled, the Lions would tie the game in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime.

After a penalty went against the Varsity Blues in overtime, York quickly took advantage on the power-play with Lucas Breault scoring the game-winner.

Although in a loss, Toronto netminder Alex Bishop made 32 saves on 36 shots.

UP NEXT: The Blues will return to Varsity Arena on Saturday, February 19 for a second battle with York in as many days. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
