PENALITIES COST BLUES IN LOSS TO GOLDENHAWKS

Box Score The Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 3-1 to the Wilfrid Laurier Goldenhawks on Saturday, December 3 at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, the Blues hold their fourth place position in the OUA West division with an 9-6-1 record and 19 points.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Dominating the first period offensively, the Blues outshot the Goldenhawks 14-3. However, even with the numerous scoring opportunities, neither side was able to break the first-period deadlock.

The Blues opened the scoring midway through the second period. Second-year forward Owen Robinson buried a cross-ice pass from fellow second-year forward Cole Purboo to pull the Blues into the lead.

The Goldenhawks tied things up just two minutes later by way of Chase Herrfort.

Midway through the third period, Herrfort struck again. The fourth-year forward from Palmerston, Ont. made the most of a 5-on-3 power play to give the Goldenhawks a 2-1 lead.

On their third power play of the period, the Goldenhawks extended their lead to three.

Despite the Blues efforts, the Goldenhawks held their lead for the remainder of the game.

First-year goaltender Rayce Ramsey was in net for the Blues tonight. The Physical and Mathematical Sciences major made 10 saves.

UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to OUA competition on Friday, January 6 when they faceoff against the Lakehead Thundewolves in Sudbury. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m
