BLUES DROP CLOSE CONTEST AGAINST WESTERN

Box Score

The Varsity Blues men's hockey team lost 3-2 to the Western Mustangs on Friday (Nov. 4) night at Varsity Arena.

With the loss, they stay seventh in the OUA West standings with a 2-3-1 record.

WHAT HAPPENED: At the beginning of the 12th minute of the game, Blues' novice forward Eddie Yan opened the scoring with his first career OUA goal. The first-year kinesiology major made the best of forward Steven Elliot's and defencemen Ryan Barbosa's efforts. Even though the Mustangs' Jake Gravelle found the equalizer, the Blues' second-year goaltender Jett Alexander made 13 key saves in the first period.

The Blues started off the second with a strong offence, taking 21 shots, but ultimately found themselves trailing by two goals by the end of the second. Mustangs' Kyle Pettit and Eric Van Impe scored twice back-to-back midway through the second period, which gave them the lead for the rest of the game.

With the help of Owen Guy and Billy Moskal, third-year forward Ross Krieger scored the final goal of the game in the seventh minute of the third period, bringing the Blues back within one.
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, November 5 when they faceoff against the Waterloo Warriors. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
