BLUES BEAT LAURIER IN HOME OPENER

Box Score A Ryan Barbosa overtime goal helped the Varsity Blues men's hockey team to a 2-1 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday (Oct. 14) night in their home opener.
 
With the win, the Blues start their 2022 OUA campaign with a 1-0 record. 
 
WHAT HAPPENED: It was the battle of the goalies through the first two periods, with Blues goalie Rayce Ramsay and Laurier goalie Christian Propp making key saves through 40 minutes. Ramsay finished the game with 18 saves. 
 
The Blues opened up the scoring in the third-period, as Blues newcomer Owen Guy combined with third-year forward Peyton Reeves to score a shorthanded goal from with 10 minutes to go. Laurier answered back with a goal of their own, from Sam Rhodes, to tie the game with three minutes left in the third. 
 
Windsor transfer Ryan Barbosa scored a minute into overtime to win the game for the Blues. The Mississauga, Ont. native was assisted by third-year forward Ross Krieger.
 

 
UP NEXT: The Varsity Blues return to action Saturday, October 15 when they faceoff against TMU at Varsity Arena. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m.
