Box Score Second-year forward Kyle Potts had a night to remember as his four goals led the Blues to their first victory of the season over the Lakehead Timberwolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Lakehead Thunderwolves got on the board first as rookie Kevin Stiles scored a powerplay goal at the 2:42 mark. Oliver Benwell found the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 as Owen Robinson threaded a cross-ice pass. With 7:07 left in the first period, the Blues struck again, with Kyle Potts taking advantage of a rebound from Lakehead goalie Brock Aiken.
It was fast and furious action in the second as forward Danny Katic put the Blues up by two, but the Thunderwolves answered less than one minute later with a second goal from Stiles. The Blues added to their lead when Potts was able to weave his way into the Lakehead zone before putting the puck past the blocker of Aiken. With 4:52 remaining in the second, Potts scored his first career hat trick putting the game further out of reach. The Blues weren't done scoring in the second period as they were able to find the net once more, with Ross Krieger getting his second goal of the season.
In the third period, Potts capped off this game, with his fourth goal of the game and sixth of the year. With 12:42 remaining in the game, Stiles added his third goal of the contest on the powerplay, finishing off a stellar night. It wasn't enough as the Blues were able to skate away with the 7-3 win. Â
Third-year goalie Alex Bishop made 23 saves to earn his first win of the season.
