CAMPBELL, GAY NAMED ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

University of Toronto defensive lineman Malcolm Campbell and rowing standout Katie Gay have been named the Varsity Blues athletes of the week for the period ending October 31. 
 
A fifth-year defensive lineman from Mississauga, Ont., Malcolm Campbell racked up 5.5 tackles and two sacks in helping the Varsity Blues football to a dominant 41-7 victory over the York Lions on Saturday.
 
The geographical information systems major totaled three solo and seven assisted tackles, while sacking Lions quarterback Noah Craney twice for a loss of nine yards on the day.
 
A 2019 CFL draftee, Campbell ends the regular season ranked fifth in the province with five sacks. The win helped U of T secure their first home playoff game since 1993.
 
A fourth-year commerce major, Katie Gay earned two podium finishes in leading the Varsity Blues rowing teams to a sixth-place finish at the 2021 OUA championships on Saturday in Welland, Ont.
 
The Ottawa native teamed up with Hannah Story-Korman to win the women's pair gold medal in 7:10.99, marking U of T's first OUA gold-medal finish since 2016.
 
Gay went onto stroke the Blues women's eight crew to their second straight OUA bronze-medal finish.
