The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey season came to a heartbreaking end following a 3-1 loss in Game 3 of their OUA Round 1 series with the Western Mustangs on Sunday night at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After two scoreless periods, Western's Kyle Petit got the visitors on the board 5:57 into the third period. Less than two minutes later, Reed Morrison put the Mustangs up by two, finishing off a 2-on-1 with Cordell James.

Toronto cut the deficit to one with 5:53 remaining as David Thomson finished off a give-and-go with Scott Kirton in close.

The Blues peppered Western's Luke Peresinni with 15 shots in the third period but they couldn't find the equalizer. Franco Sproveiro added an empty-netter with 23 seconds to seal the victory.

Second-year Blues netminder Alex Bishop made 24 saves in the loss.
