The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team shut out the Windsor Lancers 1-0 on Friday night (Jan 17) in Windsor.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first period, the Blues wanted to get on the board early in the second. Lancers goalie Molly Jenkins was able to stop everything they threw at her until Lauren MacDonnell broke-out up the ice. MacDonnell wristed the puck past Jenkins to open up the scoring with just under five minutes remaining in the second.Â
Â
The Blues offence continued to push in the final frame, taking 11 shots on Jenkins. They were unsuccessful at finding the back of the net but managed to hold Windsor to just four shots in the frame. Second-year goalie Erica Fryer made timely saves in the dying minutes of the game to hold-off the Lancers and give U of T the victory.
Â
Fryer made 17 saves in the winning effort and recorded her second straight shutout.
Â
UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action tomorrow, as they head to St. Catharines to battle the Brock Badgers at 7:15pm.
