The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team recorded two wins over the York Lions on Saturday, September 28 at Dieppe Park.

Toronto 8-1 York

The Blues comfortably sealed an 8-1 win in the first of two games against the Lions, with a big fourth inning propelling Toronto to victory.

Toronto got things started in the first inning when Beth DeConinck tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

With score at 2-1 in Toronto's favor coming into the fourth inning, the Blues tallied six runs to put the game out of York's reach. The rally was led by triples by Erin Sullivan and DeConinck, an error on a ball put in play by Jessica Tamayo, and a double by Amanda DeConinck.

Sullivan was the winning pitcher for the Blues. She surrendered one run on six hits over five innings, striking out two and walking zero.

Toronto finished with seven hits during the game, with Beth DeConinck and Kristen Naidu each collecting two hits to lead the team.

Toronto 13-2 York

The Blues again proved too strong for York, sealing an emphatic 13-2 victory in their second matchup of the day.

In the first inning, Toronto got their offence started when Jessica Tamayo's sac fly scored one run for the Blues.

The Blues scored in all five innings, with nine of their 13 runs coming in the fourth and fifth. Tamayo, Beth DeConinck, Kristen Naidu, Shawnee Rizqa, and Alison Feise all starred as the Blues ran rampant to get their weekend off to the perfect start.
