FARGEY SCORES HAT TRICK IN PRESEASON WIN

BOX SCORE

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 5-1 in their second exhibition game of the season on Saturday night (Sept 14) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues got on the board quick with a goal from Hunter Fargey, who scored on the Blues first shot of the game. The Ridgebacks scored one of their own late in the first to tie the game after 20 minutes of action.

Toronto added three goals in the second period.  Fargey notched his second for what would stand as the game winning goal less than three minutes into the frame. Scott Kirton scored off of a rebound midway through the period and Fargey completed the hattrick less than three minutes later.

The Blues managed to hold the Ridgebacks to only seven shots in the last two periods, while peppering Ontario Tech goalie Leif Hertz with 33 shots in that same time. David Thomson added one last goal in the third for the Varsity Blue.

Second-year goalie Alex Bishop made 16 saves in the victory.

UP NEXT: The Blues head to Ottawa to face off against the Carleton Ravens this Friday (Sept 20), followed by the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday (Sept 21) to continue preseason play.
