BLUES FALL TO LIONS IN PRESEASON PLAY

Box Score

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team narrowly dropped their first exhibition game of the season, 2-1, to the York Lions on Friday night (Sept 13) at Varsity Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The Blues opened up the scoring early in the first period with a power play goal from first-year forward Steven Elliott. The Lions answered back with a shorthanded goal from forward Brandon Yeamans. The score was 1-1 heading into the second period.

Just over half way through the second frame, the Lions took the lead with a goal from defenseman Jack Goranson. The Blues continued to battle, taking 20 shots in the last 40 minutes of play, but could not get anything past the Lions goalies Cole Ceci and Dalton Ewing. Toronto's defence held York to only three shots in the final period of play.

Varsity Blues goalie Frederic Foulem made 26 saves in a losing effort.

UP NEXT: Toronto continues preseason action tomorrow (September 14) when they host Ontario Tech at 7:00 p.m., at Varsity Arena.
