HALLETT, CAMPBELL SELECTED IN 2019 CFL DRAFT

University of Toronto Varsity Blues defensive back Nick Hallett and defensive linamen Malcolm Campbell were selected in the 2019 Canadian Football League (CFL) draft on Thursday night (May 2).

Hallett was chosen in the seventh round, 61st overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, while Campbell was selected in the eighth round, 65th overall by the Hamilton Ti-Cats.

Standing at 6-foot-0, 200-pounds, Hallett led the Blues and ranked fourth in the OUA with 60 tackles in 2017, while Campbell, who is 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, ranked second on the team and 10th in the OUA with 45.5 tackles this past season. He also led the OUA with 12 TFL and ranked third in the province with six sacks in 2018.









It marks the eighth time in the past nine seasons that at least one Varsity Blues player has been selected in the Canadian draft.
 
Defensive back Hugo Lopez was drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos (14th overall) in 2011, while linebacker Wilkerson DeSouza was taken in the sixth round in 2012.

Four Varsity Blues in Aaron Milton, Alex Pierzchalski, Aaron Wheaton and Christopher Johnson were drafted in 2014, while Kevin Bradfield was selected 55th overall in the 2015 draft. In 2016, both DJ Sackey and Llevi Noel were selected by their hometown Toronto Argonauts, with Sackey being chosen 13th overall.

In 2017, offensive lineman Danny Sprukulis was drafted by the Saskatchewan Rough Riders 46th overall, while last season, Paul Kozachuk was taken 46th overall by the Montreal Alouettes.
