The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball team fought hard but fell just short, dropping the consolation final to the No. 1 seed Trinity Western Spartans 3-2 (21-25, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 13-15) at the 2019 U SPORTS women's volleyball championship hosted by the University of Alberta.
Toronto finishes the tournament in sixth place.
LAST TIME OUT:Â The Blues topped the Spartans 3-0 in the gold-medal match of the 2016 U SPORTS volleyball championship and claimed the first national title in team history.
FROM THE TEAM: "We played really well together, and towards the end of the season we got very connected as a team. It came together at the right time, but we just fell short in this tournament," said third-year outside hitter Brianna Patrick. "It's tough, but for us, we wanted to treat this as our gold medal match. That's where we want to be in next year and we have to use this experience as a positive. We still have work to do, but next year we want to be in a real gold medal match."
TORONTO STATS:Â The Blues had four players in double-digits. Fourth-year right side hitter Alina Dormann had a game-high 21.5 points off of 16 kills, two aces and three blocks, while also tallying 13 digs. Second-year middle Jenna Woock had 13 points and was named the Blues player of the game, while Anna Feore, playing in her final game for the Blue and White, notched 11 points on eight kills, one ace and a four assisted blocks as well as a team-high 17 digs.
