BLUES FALL TO BISONS, FINISH 6TH AT U SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Manitoba Bisons in the consolation final of the 2019 U SPORTS championship on Sunday (March 17) in Charlottetown.

THAT'S A WRAP: The Blues cap off their 2018-19 campaign with a 20-12-2 record through the regular and post season.

FROM HEAD COACH VICKY SUNOHARA: "It's too bad that we lost but we can't be disappointed with our effort all season. I can speak for the entire coaching staff when I say that that we're super proud of this group and hopefully these memories will last forever."

HOW IT HAPPENED: After a scoreless first period, which saw Blues rookie netminder Erica Fryer make 10 saves, Manitoba opened the scoring as Karissa Kirkup found the back of the net with five minutes remaining in the second period. Toronto was trailing 1-0 after 40 minutes.

The Bisons added an insurance marker as Lauryn Keen buried a rebound with just over five minutes to go.

Fryer made 22 saves and earned player of the game honours for the Blues.
