The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey dropped Game 2, 4-3, to the No. 8 Ryerson Rams Saturday (Feb. 16) night at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED: In a back-and-forth affair the Blues forced a turnover, which led to a 2-on-1. Aidan Wallace elected to shoot and he made no mistake to open up the scoring just over six minutes in. The top seeded Rams responded, thanks to Marcus Hinds tipping in a point shot at 17:20. The score remained 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
The Blues struck early in the second. During 4-on-4 play, David Thomson forced the turnover that opened up a 2-on-1 again for Toronto. This time Scott Kirton passed it to Thomson and the first-year forward sniped it top corner. Toronto held on to the 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
The lead did not last long after the break. Only 53 seconds in, Matt Mistele notched the tying goal. Later on off a draw, Mathew Santos scored to hand the Rams their first lead of the night, 3-2, at 8:37 in the third.
Still down by one with just over a minute left in the game, the Blues pulled the goalie and had a 6-on-4 but Hayden McCool scored the empty netter to make it 4-2. Evan MacEachern potted in a powerplay goal in the final minute, but Toronto couldn't tie it up.
First-year goalie Alex Bishop made 25 saves in a losing effort.
