BISHOP, BLUES SHUT OUT WARRIORS IN 12TH STRAIGHT WIN

Second-year goalie Alex Bishop made 25 saves as the No. 4 nationally-ranked University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team shut out the Waterloo Warriors 4-0 on Saturday night (Nov. 30) at Varsity Arena.

With the win, the Blues wrap up the fall semester on a 12-game win streak and in first place in the OUA West division with a 14-2-0 record. It marks the first time since the 1981-82 season that the Blues have won 12-straight regular season games.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blues came out on fire, outshooting the Warriors 19-7 in the first frame and scoring three goals late in the period. Third-year forward Scott Kirton got the Blues on the board when he picked off a pass in deep and beat Waterloo netminder Julian Sime down low.

Less than four minutes later, second-year forward Joey Manchurek received a pass from Oliver Benwell and made no mistake, firing it off a Waterloo skate and into the net. Benwell scored one of his own just over a minute later when he buried a David Thomson rebound on the powerplay. The Blues were up 3-0 after 20 minutes of action.

After a scoreless second period and much of the third, Kevin Lavoie rounded out the scoring as he found the back of the net on a nice centering pass from Chase Olsen.

UP NEXT: The Blues are back in action in the new year as they travel to take on the York Lions on Friday, January 3.
