Game Recap: Softball |

SOFTBALL GOES 1-2 AT OIWFA CHAMPIONSHIP

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues softball team upset the Queen's Gaels 8-2 in their first game of the 2019 OIWFA championship, before falling to the Ottawa Gee-Gees and McMaster Marauders in the double-knock out tournament, October 5-6, in Hamilton, Ont.

"It was a disappointing finish to the season with a tough pair of losses to Ottawa and McMaster," said Varsity Blues head coach Craig Sarson. "That being said, this team played the best game they've played in two seasons versus Queen's to open the playoffs. The future is bright for us if we can add to this strong core of young women and I'm very excited to see how we grow."

Toronto 8, Queen's 2

The game was tied at two with the Blues batting in the top of the fifth when Beth DeConinck singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

Queen's took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but the Blues knotted it up at two in the top of the fourth inning, when Alison Feise's sac fly scored one run.

Uo of T put up four runs in the sixth inning. The Blues big bats were led by Katelyn Graham, Erin Sullivan, and DeConinck, all sending runners across the plate with RBI in the inning.

Sullivan took the win for  Blues. She allowed eight hits and two runs over seven innings, walking zero.

Beth DeConinck and Amanda DeConinck each managed multiple hits for the Blues. DeConinck went 3-for-4 at the plate and U of T didn't commit a single error in the field. Feise had the most chances in the field with 13.

The Blues went onto fall 7-0 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees and 18-5 to the McMaster Marauders to wrap up their 2019 season.
