SWIMMING SIGNS TWO JUNIOR NATIONAL MEDALISTS

The University of Toronto swimming program is pleased to announce that Brendan Oswald and Raili Kary have signed their letters of intent and committed to the Varsity Blues beginning in the 2020-21 season.

Brendan Oswald

"Brendan is just coming into his own," said Varsity Blues head coach Byron MacDonald. "I expect his improvement arch to continue. I watched him train in Windsor under coach Mike McWha and have watched his races. He is a tough guy that will go far."

A Windsor, Ont., native, Oswald is one of the top swimmers in the graduating class of 2020. The product of Windsor Aquatic Club shone at the recent Ontario summer provincial championships and was a double medalist in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly at the 2019 Swimming Canada junior national championships.

Oswald was named one of the winners of the Victor Davis award for promising swimmers in Ontario.

Raili Kary

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Kary will continue the Blues strong backstroke tradition as she is a four-time provincial champion in the backstroke and double bronze medalist at the Canadian junior national championships in the 100 and 200-metre events.

"Raili will make an immediate impact for us, and like Kylie when she entered, Raili has a lot of endurance and strength to gain that will make her even faster in the near future," said MacDonald. "We are very happy that Raili has committed early to U of T as many schools were recruiting her. Being a top student and a top swimmer, U of T is the perfect fit."

"We have a superb group currently on the team and the recruiting class of the Fall of 2020 looks sensational. Brendan and Raili are kicking it off with their commitment."

Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre.
