Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

BLUES OPEN 2019 WITH SHUT OUT VICTORY

First-year netminder Erica Fryer posted 21 saves in leading the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team to a 3-0 victory over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 5) at Windsor Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Third-year forward Stephanie Ayres wasted no time opening the scoring, burying a Taylor Trussler rebound 1:35 into the contest.

Louie Bieman then put the Blues up by two midway through the first period. The sophomore standout scored on a 5-on-3 advantage off of a nice pass from Lauren Straatman in the high slot.

The Blues held the two-goal advantage for the majority of the game, until fifth-year veteran Kassie Roache potted an empty-netter with 1:43 remaining.

UP NEXT: The Blues head to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs tomorrow (Jan. 6) at 2:30 p.m.
