Max Lindsay scored with 27 seconds remaining in regulation and Nathan Hudgin potted the winner with 27 seconds to go in overtime as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team defeated the No. 5 nationally ranked Brock Badgers 2-1 on Saturday night (Jan. 19) in St. Catharines, Ont.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After two scoreless periods and a couple of game delays due to a broken pane of glass, the Badgers opened the scoring as Jared Marino found the back of the net 6:46 into the third period.
The Blues put the pressure on and were finally rewarded when Justin Brand made a nice play at the blue line to keep the puck in and Joey Manchurek found a wide-open Lindsay in the high slot. The Ancaster, Ont., native made no mistake, wiring the puck into the top corner of the net for his eighth goal of the season and third in the past two games.
The Badgers looked to have the advantage in overtime, but Willy Paul sent a nice pass to Nathan Hudgin on a 2-on-1, who one-timed it in to seal the victory.
Â
Rookie netminder Alex Bishop posted a season-high 43 saves in Toronto's third straight win. Â
UP NEXT: The Blues travel to Windsor, Ont., to take on the Lancers next Friday, January 25. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
