The Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 4-3 to the Brampton Beast of the East Coast Hockey League in a pre-season friendly on Saturday night (Sept. 29) at Varsity Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â The Ottawa and Belleville Senators affiliate came away with the win despite a back-and-forth matchup.Third-year Blues forward Kevin Lavoie opened the scoring, sliding one past Blues alum Michael Nishi with just under a minute left in the first period.
At 4:09 in the second period, David Vallorani scored for the Beast to tie the game at 1-1.
Freshman Nathan Hudgin scored the go-ahead goal, putting the Blues up 2-1Â with five minutes left in the second period, but Vallorani scored his second of the game 20 seconds later to tie it.
In the third period, the Beast took an early lead as Alexandre Mentink scored just over a minute in. Hugo Enock then added another goal to increase Brampton's lead to 4-2.
David Thomson potted one for Toronto with three minutes to go, but despite pulling Blues netminder Frederic Foulem late, the Blues couldn't find the back of the net again.Â
