BLUES FALL TO PALADINS IN OVERTIME

The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's hockey team fell 4-3 in overtime in a penalty-filled pre-season affair with the RMC Paladins on Friday, September 21 in Kingston, Ont.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The game proved to be back-and-forth and turned physical in the second period. Toronto and RMC were penalized 11 and 13 times, respectively, with 32 minutes of penalties racked up in the second frame alone.

Fourth-year forward Max Lindsay opened the scored midway through the first period, but the Paladins responded as Alex MacDonald found the back of the net three minutes later. The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after 20 minutes of action.

Both teams came out hungry in the second period. RMC's Rhett Willcox scored 41 seconds into the frame, but U of T sophomore standout Hunter Atchison evened things back up 29 seconds later. MacDonald netted his second of the game later in the frame and the home team was up 3-2 heading into the second intermission.

Second-year forward Scott Kirton tied the game back up eight minutes into the third period and the game headed into overtime. RMC's Deric Boudreau broke the tie 24 seconds into the extra frame to seal the win.

First-year Blues netminder Alex Bishop made 23 saves in the loss.

UP NEXT: The Blues continue their pre-season schedule tomorrow night as they travel to North Bay, Ont., to take on the Nipissing Lakers. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
